I haven’t blogged in a long time. I have so many things in a tizzy in my brain that I want to comment on, but have now run out of time and the patience to write it in the way I want it to sound.  I will try again tomorrow.

This is Richard Hayne, President and CEO of Urban Outfitters. He’s also a supporter of Rick Santorum and donated over $13,000 to him. He’s against gay marriage and abortion. His company pulled a pro-gay shirt back in 08, they also blatantly ripped off an Etsy designers work, featured a t-shirt for women that said “eat less” and most recently had a card with a “tranny” slur on in.Why do you shop at this store? I imagine because you weren’t aware of these facts. Now you are, so stop shopping there.

Okay, so I have the pleasure of following american politics now that I live in the “land of the free”.  I am sure most people by now know about what has been deemed “the war on women” in the US.  Basically some republicans in this country are wanting to regress some of the women’s freedoms that american women have had for decades.

Examples:

Oklahoma banning abortions at a vote of 34-8.

http://www.addictinginfo.org/2012/02/16/oklahoma-senate-passes-personhood-act-effectively-banning-all-abortions/

Forcing women to have an ultrasound before deciding on a abortion (regardless of means of conception even if rape or incest).  But don’t worry ladies, you are allowed to avert your eyes from the screen.

Republicans don’t want contrception to be covered under PRIVATE healthcare, you know the kind that individual pays into!  I won’t even provide a link for this because go to any news network and you can find something on it.

In light of the above issue, the Sandra Fluke event came up.  Super smart lady speaks in front of a congressional board and advocates for contraception, citing all the great reasons why it should be part of any health care plan, not JUST preventing pregnancy (even though that seems reason enough).

American resident douche bag Rush Limbaugh says that we are paying for ms. fluke to be a slut because she needs to have sex so much that she needs healthcare to pay for her pills.  Not only are his statements vom inducing. They are gravely misinformed. Not like I am expecting some sweaty, grey haired dude to be the authority on women’s reproductive health. But hey, this guy gets 15 hours of radio time a week and has a alarmingly large audience. You would think that some research would have to go into his extremely bold statements.  I am sure that Rush’s middle class white male audience doesn’t know any better either.

Clearly he he doesn’t know, that for a women to have sex with a 90%+ protection of pregnancy she must be taking the pill everyday (except during her cycle) for AT least 3 months. It’s not like the viagra you take (remember when you got caught at the airport with “someone elses” prescription Rush).  You have to take it every day not just when you’re ready to deploy.

I am also sure he doesn’t know (or care) of the countless other medical benefits contraceptives have.

To get a bit personal, I suffer from poly-cystic ovarian disease. I wasn’t diagnosed til my mid twenties but I spent a lot of my teenage years and early twenties (brace yourself) bleeding like a stuck pig.  I guess maybe that was the best form of birth control there is! No one wants to get close to that.  I was way over weight because exercise aggravated my uterus which would then shed (brace again) lining, clots and cups of fluid. I had tried SO many kinds of birth control that was supposed to stop this. Only once I was given an IUD (not covered by my health plan but worth the $400 that my mother paid for) and I underwent a D&C.  That was 4 years ago.  My first 4 years of normality. A side effect of treating this disease…birth control. I am sure there are so many women who suffer from issues that are remedied by contraceptive and the fear that these may become inaccessible to them is really taking away a quality of life from women.

The additional benefits of contraceptives beyond birth control are just fuel for the fire. What really needs to be focussed on, I believe, is the right for a woman to choose when or when not to become a parent while still taking advantage of her sexuality.

In other news, uproar in the US today about Beyonce breastfeeding her baby in public.

Today I made some turnip rutabaga soup!

Soooo easy.

1 cup of water, 3 leeks, 3 carrots and 4 celery stocks in the pot. Let it boil til it starts to become mushy.

Add a boullion cube and 2 cups of water along with 1 rutabega and 3 turnips that have been skinned and cut into cubes. Boil and then bring to a simmer until cubes are soft.

Use the immersion blender until its at your desired consistency.

I added sage, salt, and pepper.

It tastes like thanksgiving!

Totally vegan, totally glutard safe and yummy!

In case you guys all forgot what I look like. My lips still make weird asymmetrical shapes and I still don’t brush my hair. I am learning how to take no flash photos.

// Flashback//

I had a flashback today. I remember in early highschool (don’t know the exact year) getting a “survey” in my hotmail inbox from a (so-called) friend.  Basically it was a little test, sort of like the ones in seventeen magazine, that asked you a lot of personal questions about masturbation, sex and your body.  It was supposed to determine whether you are sexually normal or not.  As a budding young woman I was of course curious so I did the test in the privacy of my own bedroom, just answering simple multiple choice questions.  Only later did I find out, the answers of the test were sent back to the person who sent it to me and as a result she knew all of my secrets.  Isn’t that awful?  As an adult I feel secure enough to share any sort of details but as a 13-14 year old I was mortified.  I continued to be friends with that girl and then later (maybe a year or two) found out she was also sleeping with my boyfriend!

Oh life.
